Terry Sater is a
three-time Emmy winning journalist, author, songwriter, and musician whose passion for literature and music took off when he was 10 years old with Scholastic Book Clubs and a Harmony mandolin. He was born in Minneapolis and raised in suburban St. Paul as well as rural Wisconsin. Terry faced early challenges growing up in a home with an alcoholic father and witnessing domestic violence. His family lost their home to foreclosure when he was 9 years old, leading them to an abandoned farmhouse in Wisconsin. His musical career was influenced by classical music in public schools, his father listening to country music, and his mother's favorites like Nat King Cole. He developed a diverse musical and literary palette performing Seals and Crofts covers with his brother and singing in school choirs as well as competing in forensics. Terry's musical and literary journey continued professionally and in church, including roles in the Medora Musical and playing in various cover bands, all while balancing factory jobs to fund his education in voice performance. His love for language and information led to a decades long journalism career. He's the Color Guard Commander for the Minnesota Society, Sons of the American Revolution, a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
